Microscopy

Our petrography laboratory houses various stereomicroscopes and petrographic microscopes, photographic equipment and software, as well as point-counting facilities, which allow us to conduct detailed petrographic examinations of natural stones and other construction materials, minerals and ores.

For examination, a piece of the sample is mounted on a glass slide and ground down to a thickness of 0.025 mm. At this thickness, most of the constituents are transparent and can be uneroded with the polarization microscope. Now the composition can be determined, whether the stone is homogeneous or not, and whether harmful constituents are present.
